We at
Olde Good
Things help to preserve the traditions of the past before they
disappear and are lost for all time. You may already be familiar with us as
the retrievers of hard-to-get building parts from urban demolition
sites. But this page describes the division of OGT that reclaims,
recycles and restores olde woods.
We recycle the wooden support beams, rafters and
planks from early American structures such as factories and barns.
Many of these woods are now nearly extinct natural resources. You
may choose from heart pine to chestnut - quartersawn red oak to
hemlock barn wood. Some of our stock are from buildings nearly 200
years old. We mill these timbers to perfection and bring the beauty
of these aged woods into building projects, renovations and
restorations.
Our experience dates back to 1978 when we began
Christian Brothers - a company dedicated to flooring. Over the years
we began installing, repairing and refinishing wood floors. Some
of our customers have included more than a dozen Kenneth Cole shoe
stores from New England through Washington, DC, New Yorks
Polo Ralph Lauren, Barneys and the Hotel Pierre. As explained
in Traditional Building Magazine (July/August 2001) we acquired
a unique fumed white oak floor from Russia and installed it in the
famous Oak Bar of the Plaza Hotel in New York City. With names like
these you may not think us down-to-earth enough to do
simple residential restorations, but no need to worry - we specialize
in providing antique wood to a growing appreciating market both
residential and commercial. We also wholesale to the trade.
Mill your wood?
When we first began milling wood we used a portable
band saw - as the years went by and we grew in experience and innovation,
we acquired the state of the art
Wood-Mizer
Sawmill. (Click
here to see a Wood-Mizer in action!) Now we not only mill our
own wood, but we also offer the service to companies or individuals
who need wood milled to their own specifications. If you are
interested in this service, contact us.
With over 20 years of experience in restoring
and replacing wood flooring, our staff can explain the detail and
care needed for your next project. Share a piece of history with
us with antique flooring and salvaged wood products from Olde Good
Things!
